A 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon went into effect this evening. President Donald

Trump made an announcement about it earlier today. It comes after the two sides held their first direct talks in decades earlier this week in Washington, D.C.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the ceasefire allows talks with Lebanon to continue, but he says Israeli forces won't withdraw from its positions in southern Lebanon during the ceasefire.

A leading Hezbollah official warned the group preserves the right to respond to attacks.

Trump told reporters today that Israel and Lebanon could potentially reach a peace deal

over the next week or two at the White House.

He also seemed optimistic about striking a peace deal with Iran.

Iran wants to make a deal, and we're dealing very nicely with them.

We've got to have no nuclear weapons.

That's a big factor.

And they're willing to do things today that they weren't willing to do two months ago.

Trump suggested another round of in-person negotiations with the Iranians could happen over the weekend,

and floated traveling to Pakistan to sign an agreement to end the war.
