Great to be with you. Our title today is New Beginnings in the Power of the Holy Spirit.

That is New Beginnings in the Power of the Holy Spirit. We are surely in a time of new beginnings

as the church has been really shaken around the world

through COVID-19, which is, at the time of this recording, not yet finished, even though

we're 15, 16 months into it. So there's been many endings as a result of that. The church that

we knew pre-COVID has really shifted and we're all pivoting. And there's a sense of uncertainty. The goal of this podcast very simply is to help you tap into the new beginnings God has for you in your context. But to do so in the power of the Holy Spirit. So I'm going to

share with you today a message out of Acts chapter 2 in the story of Pentecost and the story of

the birth, the new beginnings that happens there at Pentecost. There's just so much to learn

from this incredibly rich passage. Now, whenever I think about endings and new beginnings, a favorite question

I like to ask myself, which is what is it time to let go of in your life right now? And what new

chapter might God be wanting to write in your life? So the question, of course, that we're

going to deal with in this message is, how do I recognize that

the Holy Spirit's new beginnings? How do I be attentive to that? And so I'm going to touch in this

sermon, in this message, three tensions are emphases that are critically to always keep in mind

as we're discerning that Holy Spirit's movement in and through us and around us. The first

has to do with the Holy Spirit's focus on the tension of power and character. And so we read,

for example, example about 15 times in the New Testament people being filled with the Holy Spirit,

an event. Eight times

it's an event that happens in a moment of time, things like visions and prophecies and healings,

and seven times, however, refers to a lifestyle. And so we're concerned about both of the Holy

Spirit's work in us through power and his work of character. And then there's the particular
