The U.S. and its NATO allies serve notice that they will formally suspend their

participation in a 1990 treaty limiting conventional forces in Europe, making

marking the demise of another landmark arms control agreement.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization's move follows Russia's formal withdrawal from the

accord and longstanding Western complaints that

Moscow wasn't honoring the terms of the treaty. Said the statement from

NATO, Russia's withdrawal is the latest in a series of actions that systematically undermine Euro-Atlantic

security.

So spending participation in the treaty, this is the Wall Street Journal, will give the U.S.

more flexibility in deploying forces on NATO's northern and southern

flanks including the Romania and Bulgaria near Ukraine.

Gregory, I come to you because this looks like beyond the Ukraine conflict. This looks like

NATO getting ready for a long long standoff and Turkey is at the cornerstone of

two wars the war in Ukraine and the war in Gaza right now.

Mr Erdogan has been adamant in decrying the Israeli attack on Hamas and

sympathetic with a terrorist organization as I can as far as I can tell

but Mr Erdogan's language is always heated. At the same time he has a mixed record in supporting

the Ukraine war on the side of NATO.

So though we can comment on the limiting of conventional forces,

in other words, they're both free to build up on the northern and southern flank.
