I'm John that's with my friend and colleague Gregory Coppley, the editor and publisher of

Defense and Foreign Affairs who introduces me as a interested observer to the Commonwealth and the duties of a

member of the Commonwealth when the king in his role as regent of the United Kingdom reads the King's speech.

So I watched it very carefully, never have before.

And what I learned from it is that there's a tradition here that is so deep I regret that we're not part of it.

Gregory, it made me feel outside, very outside.

I've celebrated the Republic of the United States my whole life and yet I wish

that we could go back in time and accommodate in some fashion the needs of the Continental Congress and the needs of the of the Continental Congress and the needs of King George the

third because Charles would be an excellent head of state and would satisfy a lot of

the role that the president is burdened with in addition to being the

prime minister. It would solve a deal of the problems of partisanship in this country as well

because the king would speak for the American Republic.

It's not going to happen, I understand, but it would satisfy.

What is it about the king's speech that resonates with the people of the Commonwealth?

Because the King is now going to make a journey, I believe, to all the members of the Commonwealth.

He started in Kenya. What do they hear from him?

Well, the king's speech in this sense is the king speaking as monarch of the United Kingdom.

So that's why he's talking to the members of the House of Lords in the House of Commons as he did this week.

So that's that was very that's a very significant act.
