Summary

Trans people are more likely to experience homelessness than others. Which means trans folks are impacted at a higher rate by new federal policies that target people living in precarious housing situations. In this episode, Imara speaks with Dr. Dilara Yarbrough, an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Studies at San Francisco State University, who helps unpack Trump’s recent crackdown on homeless encampments in D.C. and the larger systems at play. Then, Atlanta organizer Jamie Roberts shares how her group works to address the needs of trans people in the South and what has to happen to end homelessness overall.

This disturbing action is but one in a series of moves

throughout the year, targeting unhoused people, like the drastic reduction of funding for

long-term housing by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and an executive order

1:24.7

over the summer that makes it easier for states and cities to round up

1:29.3

unhoused folks and even confine them in mental institutions. So today we're going to be

unpacking this critical issue. First, I talk with Dr. DeLara Yarbrough, Associate Professor of
