Summary

The holiday season is upon us and we wanted to take a moment to highlight trans owned small businesses that you can check out for your last minute holiday shopping. First, Auston Bjorkman, founder and creative director behind Transguy Supply shares that there's no single path to starting a business and having community can help get dreams started off the ground. Then, Imara speaks with the founder of Ms. Tea, Laurel Birch, an herbalist who crafts elixirs, tisanes, and a variety of other botanical products.

Hey, fam, it's me, Amara. Welcome to the Translash podcast, a show where we tell trans

0:17.5

trans stories to save trans lives. And yes, you might have peeped it if you've been ignoring all of the advertising since

basically Halloween.

It's the holidays.

0:29.5

And I know that so many of you are wrapping up your last minute shopping, trying to figure out

0:34.7

the things that you're going to get for the people in your lives.

0:38.3

I mean, even though, you know, a lot of us try to resist the temptation to participate in

there's no better way to do so than to be supporting small businesses that are led and created by trans people.

1:14.8

We think that it's really important that we uplift trans businesses who are making

1:19.7

incredible products because, you know, they just don't get enough attention.

1:23.7

Now, some of you who are trans have to create their own businesses, and we know why, because of discrimination, because of all of the things that make it hard for people to participate in the workforce, and also inflation size. So side hustles abound.

1:38.8

But what's interesting about trans people is that trans people create businesses that are often mission driven. Now, mission

1:45.9

driven small businesses don't get support. And as I indicated before, especially if they're not

1:51.4

trans, which is why we want to make sure that we uplift those types of businesses today. Because

1:57.1

the money that we spend within trans communities circulates within trans community and

2:02.3

becomes a powerful amplifying effect to help small businesses thrive and then to help our communities

2:07.8

thrive as a result. So shop transfer the holidays is one of my favorites and I'm so glad that we get

2:14.0

an opportunity to bring it to you again this year. But I want to remind you that
