Why you need to read the best business books of the year EACH year

Raise your hand if you’ve been looking forward to this podcast episode on the best business books of the year…ALL year!? Well, that makes two of us, friend, because I have a craaaaaaaaaaaaaazy obsession with books. Truth be told, however, I haven’t always been this way. Picture this: an English teacher who doesn’t love to read! Well, that WAS me. Or, at least, I thought it was. Turns out, it wasn’t that I didn’t like to read, but rather I just didn’t have the time. Then, a year before I left the classroom, I had a required reading assignment for my specialist degree and – in typically Kayse fashion – I waited until the last minute to do it. To solve my procrastination, I used Audible. And that was the book (and service) that changed everything. Of course, the must read business book that changed everything was none other than Dr. Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. And ever since, I’ve been on a mission to devour the must read business books of the year each year. Today, I want to share them with you.

Why must read business books catalyzed my multimillion dollar company

While it was almost painful for me to only pick 5 favorite books, I’ve decided to go with 5 business books you MUST read. These 5 books helped me grow a lot this year and, for those of you looking for something a little more fun, I’ll mention a few bonus fiction books at the end just for you. 0:06.0	hand in case you're new here. I have a real crazy obsession with books. I haven't always been
0:13.5	this way though. I mean, can you even imagine an English teacher who didn't love to read?
0:18.7	Well, that was me. And it turns out that it wasn't that I didn't like
0:22.6	reading after all. It was that I just didn't have the time or the space in my life to read.
0:28.8	Anybody else understand how that feels? As a teacher, it is just overwhelming with all of the
0:33.7	things you have to do and then you're building a business. And if you have kids and animals and significant others, it's just crazy. But a year before I left the classroom,
0:41.9	I was inside of a graduate program. So I was getting my specialist degree in ed leadership,
0:49.2	insert I roll here. And I found out that I was required to read a book and I had to do a presentation on
0:58.3	it. Ugh. So in typical Casey fashion, I waited until the very last minute to read it before my
1:04.5	Saturday class and it was two hours away in Macon, Georgia, Dr. Green from about Austin State.
1:09.5	I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for pushing
1:12.3	me to read because this moment changed everything for me. The book that I was asked to read was by
1:18.5	Dr. Stephen Covey. And you may have heard me talk about it before. It was titled The Seven Habits
1:24.5	of Highly Effective People. And since I waited until the last week to read it,
1:29.3	I decided to try out Audible and put Dr. Covey on two times the speed so that I could get more
1:35.9	done in less time. Little did I know, though, that that book would be the catalyst to a multi-million
1:43.6	dollar business. That Dr. Stephen Covey would shift
1:47.4	everything in my mindset, that I would read that book every year, sometimes twice a year,
1:53.9	since that moment back in 2017. You know, a lot has changed since then, but I still listen to books
2:00.6	on 1.5 or two times the speed
2:03.9	because I got five kids.
