I'm calling it My Secret Shame, beginning with this shameful story

I was raised by a supportive to a fault working class parents just outside of Chicago.

I think they did a wonderful job, even if they didn't understand what they were supporting

when their children were entering it.

They were not imaginative people.

My father was the kind of guy where you know as you're're young you ask hypothetical questions when you're

like dad what would you do if you had a Ferrari testorosa and the answer was

always like the insurance on that thing alone would put a new roof on the garage so it wasn't yeah it's like

thanks for flying your pretend wings for your for your son there pop and so I like and they didn't understand like I'm going to be a comedian like what like Jack Benny like they didn't know what that what like when it's in their own family like you're either on TV or you just go work for the village. Get a job.

And so I, you know, and so once I stopped borrowing money from them they treated me, you know me less like a child and more like a special needs

adult who lives on his own. Where they were just astonished at anything I

pulled off in the real world.

They were just so flabbergasted.

Like they came to visit me here not too long ago.

I'm 38.

They came to visit me.

And my mother, a very nosy woman, just wants to know what her kids are up to. But nosy is the point where I welcomed her into my home and she immediately went through my cabinets and cupboards because that's what you do

to somebody who welcomes you and you just rifle through their stuff immediately without putting
