And today we're going to be joined in the studio by our guest Mark de laverne, who is the chief mobility officer for the city of Detroit.

Yes, Peter, I think the timing of having Mark de laverne on the show today is quite fortuitous for us because the city of Detroit as well as several other government entities have just gotten some major funding from the federal government to further their transportation efforts?

In recent weeks, the U.S. Department of Transportation has doled out about $60 million worth of grants

for various municipalities and regions to study

autonomous vehicles and that kind of runs the gamut from Iowa got a grant to study autonomous driving systems and how they interact with rural roads.

Pennsylvania is going to be looking at work zones.

Ohio is going to be studying the data that comes off of vehicles and in Detroit is also

one of the recipients of one of these seven or so recipients of these grants.

Yeah and I know that Mark's going to go into more detail about that.

I know that some of the more high profile testing centers here in the Detroit area are going to be

part of that funding.

The American Center for Mobility, which is in

Ipsilani, Michigan, and also the University of Michigan's test site, which is called M
