The recent crude NASA flyby of the moon was historic in a number of very important regards.

First, it was the first spaceflight beyond low-earth orbit undertaken by actual human beings

in more than 50 years. Second, the diversity of its crew represents multiple important

firsts. Its pilot, Victor Glover Jr., is the first person of color to travel to the moon and back.

Mission Specialist Christina Cook is the first woman to travel not only within the vicinity of the moon,

but even beyond low Earth orbit.

And Canadian Jeremy Hansen is the first non-U.S. citizen

to make such a trip. Moreover, their journey, which took them 252,756 miles from Earth, broke Apollo 13's

1970 record, making them the human beings who have traveled farthest from Earth.

Because of the path they took and the cameras with which they were equipped,

they were able to capture higher resolution imagery of the lunar far side than any previous probe or crude mission to the moon.

And some of that imagery is truly spectacular.

Indeed, some of it is actually too good to be true.

AI-generated imagery of incredibly close-up views of the lunar surface have been circulating

on social media.

While Artemis II has captured fantastic imagery, it hasn't looked

like these images, which make it seem like the surface of the moon was just outside their window,

stretching away to the horizon. Even at its closest, Artemis 2 was still 4,000 miles from the lunar
