Congress checked avoid government shutdown off their weekend to do list.

Following weeks of gridlock, Speaker Kevin McCarthy made an unexpected

11th hour proposal that passed the House 355 to 91, gaining more support from Democrats than

Republicans before flying through the Senate 88 to 9. President Biden signed the stop gap bill

into law just hours before Saturday's midnight deadline. The resolution keeps the federal

lights on through November 17th and includes funding for natural disaster aid and the

federal aviation administration, but not Ukraine or the southern border.

While federal workers are high-fiving over uninterrupted paychecks, some hard-line House

Republicans are planning a vote to oust McCarthy as Speaker for compromising with Democrats.

They wanted to see spending cuts and border security in the budget.

McCarthy has told them to, quote, unquote, bring it, saying someone had to, quote,

be an adult in the room, unquote.
