Republican nominee Donald Trump became a felon. A gunman tried to assassinate him.

President Biden ended his campaign, and Vice President Harris started hers.

Now a new sense of uncertainty hangs over the race.

On the Democratic side, candidates, voters, and campaigners are feeling more optimistic.

Since Harris took over, there's been an outpouring of volunteer energy and a rebound in the polls.

Plus, a flood of donations has poured into her campaign. Meanwhile, Trump's campaign

has spent the last week trying to clean up past comments from Trump's running mate, Senator

J.D. Vance of Ohio.

Particularly his remarks about so-called childless cat ladies.

Some Republican strategists fear he could hurt the campaign with suburban women.

And Trump himself caused some controversy this weekend.
