| 0:00.0 | Welcome to another episode of Lurie Breaks It Down, a podcast where we dig deeply to connect the dots on the issues that shape our world. |
| 0:20.0 | I'm Lurie Daniel Favors, author, activist, attorney, and the host of the Lurie Daniel Favors show on Sirius XM's Urban View, Channel 126. If you like what you're about to hear, go ahead and give us five stars and then tell everybody that you know. And if you don't like it, just, child, keep it to yourself and pray our strength. Okay? Thank you so much. |
| 0:37.6 | Also, don't forget to check out my YouTube page, Lurie Daniel Favor's Media, where you should subscribe, like, and share because then you'll get notified when I post videos from my show, which I do just about every single day and when I go live with my YouTube audience. So lots to come on the Lurie Daniel Favor's show. Now, those of you who are new to the show, you should just know that because everyday ending and why we talk about these sorts of topics, whether it's a live show or you hearing a repeat over the weekend, it's going to be kind of heavy. Heavy is hard, right? Heavy is not the easiest of places to sit in. And we are cognizant of that. And so when the show first began, we created this segment called |
| 1:11.5 | Moment of Gratitude. And the moment of gratitude is really just a moment where we take before we get |
| 1:16.1 | into the heaviness of the conversation. And we use that moment to really curate a sense of joy, |
| 1:21.4 | gratitude, and appreciation by focusing on something. Maybe it's a poem, a song, or some sort of |
| 1:26.6 | video, a clip, like the one we're going to watch or experience together today. And the reason we do that is because we know both from the science and from lived experience that when you are rooted in gratitude, you cannot also be trapped by fear, loneliness, and depression. That really matters in a time like now, because it's easy, I'm sure, as you can see, to be trapped by fear, loneliness, and depression. So the ritual, as I mentioned, it's a very simple one and you're going to be laughing at yourself when you realize how simple it is. It is so simple that it goes a little something like a little. In just a minute, you're going to hear music. That music is going to be an invitation to you to join the rest of us because when we hear it, we are going to collectively begin taking the slowest, the deepest, the most lung capacity expanding, |
| 2:03.4 | joyful heart invigorating, and troubled mind cleansing, the most weary soul, |
| 2:07.5 | uplifting and amazingly juicy breath. As we kick off our most important segment of every single |
| 2:13.7 | day, it is time for our moment of gratitude. |
| 2:17.0 | Thank you. single day. It is time for our moment of gratitude. Every day we got to do it and every day it matters. |
| 2:46.8 | Shout out to the team. |
| 2:47.8 | Shout out to the Urban View community. |
| 2:49.4 | Shout out to the Nubians and to our |
| 2:51.6 | friends on the podcast community and our friends in the YouTube space. We are just grateful to be able to have moments like this where we can connect in ways that remind us of our common humanity. |
| 3:01.7 | And I want to, as we continue this conversation about power throughout this month, we've been looking at power from a variety of different ways. And one of the challenges that we have, particularly if you were raised and socialized in the West, is that we often think of the power that we have as sort of a function of who we are right now. And we forget that the power that we have isn't something that we were just necessarily born with, although we are born with |
| 3:25.0 | our own measures of agency to the extent that we are able to exercise them. And frankly, even if you |
| 3:29.1 | can't exercise them, it doesn't mean that it's not there. It just means that at this moment, |
| 3:32.4 | you are not fully able to materialize that. But when it comes to power, we often tend to think |
| 3:38.0 | about our power, our sources of power, as something that started when we got here. |
| 3:43.2 | That now as a result of us being here, now we can actuate it. |
| 3:46.1 | I want you all to take a listen to this clip. |
