The Hey everybody it's Caitlin talking right at you. This week unfortunately we had some scheduling snafoos. I goofed. I doofed. I messed it up. I did not lock down a guest. I'm sorry, okay? It happens. I'm a human being. But I decided, one thing that might

be fun is to bring back the mini episode.

Because we haven't done one of these in a long time and they're fun for me.

And I realized I make references on the show a lot to conspiracy theories quote unquote they turn

out to be totally true and it is a thing very often throughout history but especially in the US,

people have been like, hey, I think the government

or this corporation might be doing something shady and illegal.

And then, of course, the government or that corporation is like,

no, lay it, you're so crazy.

And then it turns out they're totally doing that thing.

So I wanted to do a little overview of a couple of interesting quote-unquote conspiracy theories

that turned out to be totally true. So this week I'm focusing on a couple of different

U.S. government-related conspiracy theories. They are nuts. I looked

to do a couple of sort of naughty things, illegal things, unethical things that the old Uncle Sam has done in the last

hundred years and they're going to blow your goddamn mind.

Number one, there is a conspiracy theory that the government and specifically the FBI surveils people with politics that they don't like.

This was especially common under J Edgar Hoover, who is got just a fucking lunatic.

Look that guy up, he's bananas.

And of course the FBI throughout history said,

oh no, no, no, no, no, of course not.

We're only surveilling people who we believe present

a clear and present danger.
