Summary

This week I spoke to Moon Juice founder and CEO Amanda Chantal Bacon. Amanda, as it says in the PR email I received, “has a captivating personal story that led her to create her company,” but we barely touched on that in this conversation. Instead we had a candid conversation that began with talking about shame and a book (All Fours). And spanned to finding love later, aging, mourning past life phases, intergenerational friendship, and the myth of balance. I found this to be a very comforting conversation from start to finish; she was so wise and easygoing that I left feeling like I'd just hung up with a good friend. Despite the fact that I’ve been a fan of her products for over a decade, use her face wash daily, and credit her Beauty Pills for keeping my acne in check—we didn’t even talk about her her company origin story, or even one of her specific products. Next time. Let us know what you think eavesdropping.

This is just a very quick pre-introdu to the introduction you're about to hear for the episode

0:05.6

to say that what you're about to hear makes no mention of the U.S. election at all.

0:12.3

And that is because it was recorded quite a bit before.

0:17.2

I recorded the intro you're about to hear several weeks ago.

0:23.4

And the actual interview was recorded at the end of the summer. So we don't talk about the intensity of this news cycle.

I hope that listening to something completely unrelated might be a balm on what has been a very stressful couple of weeks in the

0:42.1

news, especially the last week in particular for everyone. So here's that conversation. That's

0:49.2

why there's no mention of it. Here we go. Here it is. I do have moments of passion that I think really keep me

1:01.9

coming back every morning to like chop wood and carry water again because I definitely feel like

1:08.1

that is my life phase. Chop wood and carry water. And so I think

1:12.6

that keeps me going. Some of the, just the tactical things that I mentioned to keep the body

1:17.6

in mind healthy and on the rails, but also a feeling of faith, hope, and then maybe just the

1:27.0

discipline of being able to get out of bed every morning and keep my

1:32.4

body moving despite my head saying this is impossible.

1:36.3

Hi, welcome back.

1:38.0

My name is Katie Dilbaugh.

1:39.0

You're about to hear a conversation that I honestly really loved.

1:43.8

I have been doing this podcast for what feels like a very long time.

1:48.4

And I think the reason why I continue is because of conversations like this one,

1:55.6

where I get to talk to someone who I want to talk to and might not have gotten to without having it recorded

2:06.2

for this platform and getting an hour of their time to see where it goes and let it meander

2:13.7

into directions that it might not have in a social setting or in any other place.
