In the run-up to the primary for LA County Sheriff, I'm sitting down with all of the candidates to give voters an up-close look at their platforms.

Today I'm sitting down with Andre White.

Andre is a detective for Operation Safe Streets, the gang unit of the department.

He told me that he has not seen any deputy gangs, but that he has been a victim of retaliation

from the good old boys network that is so pervasive within the department. He supports bringing

in a third party to investigate complaints. He wants to stop deputies from responding to mental

health crises and implement more hands-on training. He is in favor of closing men's central jail and replacing it with a new facility.

Could you start off by telling us a little bit about yourself and what got you interested in the role of sheriff of L.A. County?

Yes, so I'm currently a detective on the department I've been on for 12 years now.

And I'm currently a detective over at Operation Safe Streets that's

primarily focused with gangs life long resident from Compton where I grew up at

and the reason I decided to run for sheriff is because I wholeheartedly believe that it is time for a generational

perspective, and just moving forward with the next generation of policing, my generation
