Hey there from CNN. I'm Krista Bow with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, August 5th.

The House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed the Justice Department and high-profile Democratic and Republican figures

for files and information related to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

It's a show of defiance by some Republicans against House Speaker Mike Johnson,

who has attempted to tamp down

congressional efforts to push for the release of the files. CNN is reaching out to those subpoenaed.

And it comes as the Trump administration is debating releasing the transcript of Deputy Attorney

General Todd Blanche's interview with Epstein associate Galane Maxwell. That's what three

senior administration officials

told CNN, with one saying a final decision hasn't been made yet. Here's CNN's Elena Trin

with the details. Some of the people we spoke was said that they want to release this information

sooner rather than later. They believe that the Trump administration needs to be more in control

of the optics of all of this. Others said, you know, they believe that the Epstein story has largely
