Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, August 5th.

Texas Republicans are set to meet again today after they voted to issue civil arrest

warrants for Democratic lawmakers who fled the state to stop a GOP-led redistricting vote.

The state's governor, Greg Abbott, says he's ordered state officers to bring

back any House member who has, quote, abandoned their duty to Texans. But one of those Democratic

lawmakers, Jolanda Jones, says they haven't broken any laws. So respectfully, he's making up some

okay? He's trying to get sound bites, and he has no legal mechanism.

And if he did, subpoenas from Texas don't work in New York, so he's going to come get us

house.

Meanwhile, Texas House Speaker, Republican Dustin Burrows, says he'll do everything in his power

to get enough lawmakers in the House for it to function.

While our work may be delayed, whether it's tomorrow or next week, the House will complete its

required duties. So what now? Well, in 2021, when Democrats broke quorum over new voting laws, the Texas Supreme Court ruled

the House does have the authority to physically force absent members to attend.
