To Mexico, to Tabasco State.

I'm learning from Mary Anastacio Grady, the America's columnist and commentator for the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal.

The Tabasco State has within it a very comfortable relationship

between powerful voices in Mexico City, once upon a time the president of the country,

Amlo, the founding and driver for Marina, the party that dominates the whole of Mexico, but also

his associates, people he knew or

continues to know in Tabasco State. This strikes me as a story that requires layers to be peeled

back. So marry a very good evening to you. Tabasco State, its reputation for the rest of Mexico,

especially in Mexico City. How is it regarded?

And what is Amlo's place in it? Well, good evening, John. The south of Mexico is regarded by the

middle of Mexico and by the north of Mexico as a rather backward place. And that's a deserved reputation.

It's the last place to have kind of, you know, the north of Mexico has modernized a lot.

But the south of Mexico is very much like the American South in, say, the 30s and 40s.

Political machines, governor controls a lot, and the rest of the

population just kind of goes along and suffers. And it tends to be very poor and very

backward. And Tobasco is part of that network of states in the South. And that was the launch pad for AMLO, president of the country.

It is also the home base of a man who is now in the custody of the authorities,

accused of being a mob boss.
