I'm John Basker Bob Zimmerman, Behind the Black, and we're going to make an artwork out of the planet Mars.

We all remember Christo, wrapping objects such as Central Park and

the Pyramids. Well this is his biggest project yet. He can manage it from

Valhalla. What's he going to do Bob? Well it's true this he ain't to do it. It's going to be a scientific community.

A group of Australian planetary scientists have posed, posted it, have published a paper in which they propose that strict legal guidelines be imposed

on any future exploration on Mars in order to prevent those future colonists from doing anything that might interfere

with these scientists future research that they might want to do.

Essentially these Australian scientists are proposing and they will get lots of agreement

in the science community that the scientists should dictate where and what can be done on

Mars because they want to protect their future research.

And so therefore any future explanation is going to be under strict guidelines by the scientific

community determining what can be done.

Let me translate.

We call, we academics here allowing others the freedom to explore, we come first.

Let's create rules that allow us to do what we want while forcing others to ask us

permission to do what they want. And this is really a bad thing, but unfortunately much of our

intellectual community in the West today goes along with this kind of regulatory thinking.

They are educated, they know better, we should tell everybody else

what to do. And so I think the first few generations of the commonest in space are going

to have a lot of problems because they're going to be regulated so strictly by the ground.

Oh, we already have, by the way, planetary protection rules that are ridiculous.
