It went out of operations on January 15, and it was out for two weeks.

They only reported this about ten days after it went out.

And that's concerning when something's out that long.

Well, just a few days ago they finally revealed that yes, it's been fixed.

And the way they fixed it was pretty straightforward.

They did a power cycle. They rebooted the thing.

And the reason they had gone out actually was not any defect in the equipment.

This is actually a standard problem for all computers and electronic equipment in space.

A galactic cosmic ray hit the electronics.

And when it does that, it does something called a bit flip.

That's the name they have for this. It's so common.
