The AP reports that Brenton Terran, the New Zealand Mosque shooter, unexpectedly changed

his plea to guilty on Thursday, March 26th.

His trial was slated to begin in June and last six weeks.

Terran, a white supremacist immigrant from Australia, pled guilty to 50 murder charges, 40 charges

of attempted murder, and one charge of terrorism in connection with his 2019 attack on two

Christ church mosques.

Terran is the first person to be found guilty of terrorism in New Zealand since the country

issued new terrorism laws in 2001 in the wake of 9-11.

Because of the change of plea, came as New Zealand began a for-rate lockdown to slow the

spread of COVID-19.

Terran entered his plea via video link and was not present at court.

The judge, just as Cameron Mander, expressed regret that the lockdown also prevented the

victims and their families from being present at the court.
