Coming up on Sword and Scale Daily, a Mississippi judge is in critical condition after being shot

outside the Meridian courthouse.

Police in Northeastern Nevada are investigating the murder of 16-year-old Gabrielle Len Yulaki,

whose body was discovered in your spring creek last week.

Seven members of the same family were killed in a suspected murder suicide in North Carolina.

Finally, in Japan, 30-year-old Satoshi Uimatsu was sentenced to death by hanging for a

2016 mass murder in a care home for disabled people.

The Meridian Star reports that a Lauderdale County Mississippi judge was critically injured

in a shooting outside the Meridian courthouse on Monday.

Chancey-Court Judge Charles E. Smith had parked at the courthouse slot and was exiting his

truck when at approximately 715 AM he was hit by a single shot to the lower abdomen.

Judge Smith collapsed and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

He has since undergone surgery and is expected to be transferred to the University of Mississippi

Medical Care in Jackson.

Investigators believe that only one shot was fired.

The investigation is still ongoing, but so far there is no description of a suspect or

a suspect vehicle and police have not recovered the weapon.

Judge Smith took his oath of office in January of 2019.
