Customers don't frequently look and see where their product was made as part of their buying decision.

So I sort of scratched that itch a little bit.

It felt like there was something there and went and spent some time in Italy with a few of my partners,

one of my partners, Maria, who was born in Sicily and had spent most of her life traveling back and forth from the U.S.

to Italy where she had family in both places and been in the shoe business for a long time. She and I spent some time going to Italy and I spent time learning about the industry

and learning about the shoe industry specifically and realizing

that the opportunity was actually bigger than I thought.

There were these tens of thousands of small workshops all around the country.

And they were being deserted by brands looking for far, far less expensive areas to manufacture their product.

And not only were they being deserted, but our fear was that this craft was being deserted and was going to be lost.

And it wasn't going to be lost overnight, but you could see the writing on the wall.
