you know, it's the greatest country in the world. 1917, August 23rd, 13 black soldiers were

hanged in Houston. That's right. Part of what they call the Houston Mutiny or the Camp Logan Mutiny.

And I'm going to put it in perspective.

So America declared war in the spring of 1917 on Germany, right?

America declared World War I broke out.

And they decided to install two new military battalions in Harris County, which to this day, Harris County, shout out to Harris County, one of the baddest counties period on earth, Texas, Camp Logan and Ellington Field.

July 27th, 1917, the United States ordered therd Battalion, all black, 24th Infantry Regiment

to guard the camp construction site. The regiment traveled to Houston by train. They came in

at Columbus, New Mexico. They had seven commissioned officers among them. From their arrival,

though, their black presence was a problem in segregated Houston.

Tensions were in place, of course, Jim Crow was raging.

Jim Crow was the law of the land.

And soldiers were forced to contend with segregation.

Now, imagine they're going overseas to fight for freedom, justice in the American way, only to be treated like subhumans in America, right?
