Dr. Berg talks about the long term effects of low carbohydrate diets. There are no essential carbohydrates. Your body will not suffer from not having to consume glucose for energy. It will run much better on fat fuel or ketones. A low carb diet is NOT a low-calorie diet. They are two separate things. Being on the ketogenic diet, you want to eat unlimited vegetables. When your body is used to the low carb diet, it will not start to crave sugar or carbs; it will be the opposite!
