I'm John Batser with my good colleague Joseph Sternberg, who writes a column about a national scandal that I only partially understand.

Kier Sturmer is involved in some fashion.

Elon Musk amazingly got involved in some fashion before he went quiet back to his company.

This is the so-called rape gangs of New England over these last years,

and I think it might date back almost 20 years.

Question is, why was there not more revelation of these gangs?

Why was there not more prosecution?

Who made these decisions?

And why?

I want to get to the why part, Joseph, because you mentioned in your column, everybody

knows about it, and yet still, no direct address to the question of who did it and why.

And is that some sensibility Victorian thinking?

Is that class? Is that money? How to explain why not address something that was so clearly wrong?

Yeah, well, what we're talking about here is the scandal that for many years, several decades, at least it appears that there's been this phenomenon of organized gangs of men, most often from Pakistani Muslim ethnic backgrounds, you know, forming gangs

that would sort of, you know, emotionally groom and then, you know, sexually assault or rape,

you know, English teenage girls or preteen girls even. I mean, some of these

cases are grotesque. And, you know, this has not really been hidden or concealed, at least since

2007 as one of the first media reports started appearing. And then there were a series of big

exposés in the Times of London in 2011.

And yet it's only in January of this year when Elon Musk started tweeting about this and kind

of trolling Prime Minister Kier Starrmer about it, the politics on this scandal started shifting.

And so about a week or so ago, Starrmer finally announced a full-scale national legal inquiry into what has happened
