I'm John Bassler speaking with Joseph Sternberg about the editorial board of the Wall Street

Journal.

He writes the political economics column, his, each week from London.

And we look for life in London in wartime.

The Prime Minister, Mr. Sunak, addressing parliament in these last hours on the Monday, used

the word pogrom, pogrom for the events of October 7th and following.

That is a significant, historically, weighty word.

The question is, how is Britain, how is London reacting to the horror of what we've learned

about the attack by Hamas?

Joe, there have been protests in Paris, there have been protests in London, London has

a very large Muslim population.

The Prime Minister using the word pogrom, did that, did that invite a program against the

Prime Minister from the Muslim population?

Have they risen up against the politics of the parliament that accepted the Prime

Minister's use of the word pogrom?

Well, I think it's hard to say because there were already so many protests going on against

Israel over the past week and a half.

And I think this is symptomatic of a much deeper sickness in European society that has

developed in recent decades.

And also the problem that European countries are going to have acting on these very lofty

rhetorical promises that we have to stand in solidarity with Israel coming from European

politicians.
