Looking at the war in Europe, the energy demands in Europe with Russia out of the picture

indefinitely.

And Europe lessons learned through these months of transition from complete dependence for

natural gas on Russia to striking out on their own for other resources, natural gas from

America, for example, or atomic energy remaining in Germany and depending on France and renewables.

This question is, has Europe learned self-defense, has Europe seen that Ukraine war is a demonstration

of how they were not prepared these many years for contests?

Hi, John.

Yes, I think actually Europe is starting to get that message.

I mean, we're having this conversation because we are the one year mark since the Russian

invasion of Ukraine.

And I was sort of surprised as I looked back or for the past year at exactly how well

Europe had gotten that message on defense.

I was among the many, many people who repessimistic that even a shocking event like this would

jolt a complacent Western Europe into a new seriousness of purpose about looking after

its own security and defense.
