we're happy or not in 2025.

Jim McTae, former Washington editor of Barron's, he now lives in Lancaster County as a novelist, but he's taking road trips and

we're going to go with him to Baltimore. First, however, we pause at the

mystery of the jobs number. The US posted surprisingly large gains,

Wiesewall Street Journal, in both jobs and pay, even though the unemployment

rate ticked up to 4%. U.S. job growth bursts past expectations, writes the

journal, even as the unemployment rate edged up, presenting a mixed view of a

labor market.

No kidding.

Jim, a very good evening to you, the old mixed view verdict from the journal.

Now, we're waiting on the Federal Reserve to at least begin the idea of making money a little cheaper.

It's more expensive than it had been in two decades.

However, a positive jobs number does not support the Fed's idea that we're in a recession or near two.

So your memory of covering these jobs numbers for years,

the Fed is it at this moment disposed to give us a cut, make money cheaper, or is it the

opinion that inflation is not dead?

They're growing, they're hiring, so we don't need to do anything for them.
