I'm Gretchen Rubin and this is a little happier. I'm always struck by the randomness of what I remember

for my own past and I'm also struck by what I remember from my education. I have forgotten so much,

but a few things stick out here and there. At one of the things I remember most clearly from my

entire time at law school was from a class called Business Administration that was taught by the

legendary professor and judge, judge, winter. I'm sure I learned a lot of valuable information in

that class, but of everything, the thing that I remember best is something he said one day in

an aside as he was talking about investment strategies. He said, the investor is wise,

who diversifies and I've never forgotten it and I've come to realize that this is very valuable

advice in many situations in life. Often it's not a bad idea to hedge your bets, make sure that you

have more than one option that you don't put all your eggs in one basket. I found myself saying to

my daughters as they navigated middle school and high school friendships. A ninth grader is wise,

who diversifies. And of course this saying is also a great example of the rhyme as a reason effect,

something I love, the psychological phenomenon that a saying seems more valuable or truthful

when it rhymes. It was certainly more memorable for me. It's one of the few things I remember from
