Hi, this is K-Sunga and I welcome you this Thursday to Radio Headspace. So I may have

disclosed to you all that I was able to finally go see my folks in New York City for

Father's Day. And so it was really a glorious visit. We talked and we talked, we laughed

and we laughed and we just overall cut up and had a great time enjoying each other. And

of course, we ate. Oh my god, did we eat? Fried fish, plantains, stew beans and rice, and

of course my mother's famous mac and cheese, which happens to be my absolute favorite.

I remember one year I got the recipe for my mother and I made it for my family. I went

totally overboard and made twice as much as the recipe called for because I just love it so much.

I literally gained 10 pounds that week, 10 pounds. Afterwards I immediately burned the recipe.

Anyway, back to this Father's Day. When I was serving my food, I noticed my father taking

some pills. Now my father is one of the healthiest people I know. He's very disciplined about taking

his vitamins and he takes a lot of them. And so I asked him what he was taking this time and he

replied, well, if I want some of your mama's mac and cheese, I got to take my lactate.

Low and behold, my father is lactose intolerant. But I commend him for knowing this about his body

and mindfully acting appropriately about it. And it just got me to thinking about the wisdom

our bodies possess and how if we allow ourselves to just listen to it, what a better place we would be in.
