Summary

Sometimes the hardest limits we face are not external—they’re the expectations we’ve quietly learned to live within. In Acts 3, we meet a man who has spent years sitting at the temple gate, asking for what he believes is possible. When Peter and John encounter him, they offer something entirely different—something he wasn’t even expecting to receive. In this episode, Dr. Alison reflects on how limiting beliefs shape what we ask for, what we notice, and what we believe is available to us—and how God often meets us beyond those expectations. As we continue through this first week after Easter, we're making a small seasonal shift.

In liturgical churches, the readings after Easter often move away from the Old Testament and

into the book of Acts. And this is intentional. Easter isn't only about what happened to Jesus.

It's also about what begins to happen in all of us, in ourselves, in our relationships, and in our

in real time. So today we're going to follow that rhythm too. Today's reading comes from Acts 3, 1 through

Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to

them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said,

Look at us. So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.

Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.

Taking him by the right hand, Peter helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and

the temple courts walking and jumping and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and

praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate
