We stay in our heads, searching for clarity This episode explores what it means to get stuck in our thoughts—and how, often, what we most need is not more analysis, but a return to presence, to relationship, and to the love already with us. Hey everyone, I'm Dr. Allison. Today's scripture offers us a wiser way of being human as we step into the day.

0:12.0

Today we're looking at a story that feels deeply human. Two people are walking along a road, talking about everything that has happened lately. They're trying to make

0:21.2

sense of it. They're processing it, replaying it, wondering. And as they walk, someone joins them.

0:27.1

But they don't recognize he is the very one they are talking about. Today's reading is selected

0:33.3

verses from Luke 24, 13 through 35. Now that same day, two of them were going to a village called

0:40.9

Amas, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had

0:46.1

happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and

0:51.7

walked along with them, but they were kept from recognizing him.

0:56.2

He asked them, what are you discussing together as you walk along? They stood still, their faces

1:01.9

downcast. One of them named Cleopus asked him, are you the only one visiting Jerusalem

1:07.4

who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?

1:18.0

What things? Jesus asked. About Jesus of Nazareth, they replied. He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be

1:23.1

sentenced to death and they crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem

1:28.9

Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. In addition, some of our

1:34.8

women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning but didn't find his body. They came and

1:40.9

told us that they had seen a vision of angels who said he was alive. Then some of our

1:46.1

companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.

1:52.4

As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going

1:57.0

further. But they urged him strongly, stay with us, for it is nearly evening. The day is

2:02.2

almost over. So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread,

2:08.3

gave thanks, broke it, and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized

2:14.1

him, and he disappeared from their sight. They asked each other,
