Governor Gavin Newsom signed the Decriminalizing Artistic Expression Act.

This is going to restrict the use of rap lyrics as evidence in court in California.

There was a major hip-hop artist that attended the signing ceremony, including Killer Mike,

Mill, Two Short, Tidalassign, YG, E-40, and Tiger. In a press release, the Black Music

Action Coalition called the Bill a crucial step in the right direction of not injecting

racial bias into court proceedings, especially given the recent indictment of Young Thung

and Gunna, whose lyrics have already been directly quoted and used against them in an ongoing

trial in Atlanta.

Yeah, I personally like this because I think music is art, like a lot of other art forms.

If you're in a movie that has violence, that shouldn't necessarily be used against you

the same way if you are using your art to take things that you've seen or been through,

I don't think that should be used against you in the court of law either.

and they are trying to build evidence against you, they will go to your lyrics and things

that you have said in songs to hold it against you.
