So today, we're going to talk about Vance,

walking back Trump's promises further.

The future vice president of the United States

continued a trend from the incoming administration

of walking back campaign promises,

this time on something that is likely to cause a social

media stir and create a lot of commentary. Throughout the campaign, Trump promised to pardon those

involved in January 6th on his first day in office. It was a position that even some Republican allies took issue with,

but it was something that energized his base. After winning the election, Trump's rhetoric started

to slowly shift. Many would be pardoned. Vance was the one who seemed to break the news to those who believed Trump's promises.

While on Fox News, he said, quote,

If you protested peacefully on January 6th and you had Merrick Garland's Department of Justice treat you like a gang member, you should be pardoned.

If you committed violence on that day, obviously, you should be pardoned. If you committed violence on that day,

obviously you shouldn't be pardoned. He went on to say that there's a gray area between those two

categories, but it's kind of ill-defined. When you think about the absolute power the presidency has when it comes to

pardons, this is a pretty tempered position. If you aren't aware, Trump has full

authority over pardon power and it is basically unquestionable. So, him choosing not to

exercise it to its fullest is something that many are going to see as

reasonable.

If many will see it as reasonable, why is it likely to cause a ruckus and a whole lot of commentary?
