Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again. So today, we're going to talk about

Newsom, Trump, and withholding aid. The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, suggested that

incoming President Trump might attempt to withhold aid. California is currently facing

fires that are anticipated to create record

losses when it comes to economic activity. J.P. Morgan is estimating 20 billion in insured losses

and 50 billion in total economic losses. When it comes to Trump attempting to withhold disaster recovery funding, Newsom said,

quote, he's done it in states all across the country. In 2018, even before I was governor of

California, he tried to withhold money down in Orange County, until apparently a staff member,

and this has been well reported,

said there were a lot of Trump supporters, and then he decided to change his mind.

There's actually a lot of reporting about this. The immediate reaction from the Republican rank in file is that it wouldn't happen.

It's worth noting that some Republicans in Congress have openly supported the idea of withholding funding.

Most of the outrage from Republicans comes from bad information, hyperbole, and in some cases, outright lies about what's happened during the fires.

It's gotten so bad that, much like the relief efforts in North Carolina, websites have been set up

to track and debunk myths and disinformation. The idea of withholding recovery funding is probably rubbing some

people the wrong way, especially Trump supporters who are being impacted. One of the things

we've talked about repeatedly is how the idea of red and blue states is very misleading,

that there aren't many places that are all red or all blue, or really even close. California is seen as deep blue, and it is

politically. But 38% of people voted for Trump, more than 6 million people. In L.A. County alone, more than 1.1 million

people voted for Trump. The idea is that the President of the United States is taking on responsibility

for all Americans, not just the ones that happen to be in their party.
