Today's episode is not going to be about walking. Walking is going to be implied, but today

we're going to talk about TV, television. I am of an age, I'm 64. So when I was growing up, TV was a big box that sat on a table,

that you had to physically get up, turn on, adjust the sound, change the channel. Remotes didn't

happen until later.

My earliest memory of TV was black and white TV.

That's what we had as a family.

We were not a TV watching family.

Or at least, we didn't watch a lot of TV.

Our TV was very intentional.

It was in the evening.

I remember as a boy watching Batman with Adam West.

Sunday night was for the wonderful world of Disney.

I always envied my friends whose parents had a more relaxed view of TV and they could watch TV in the afternoon.

I could watch cartoons when they came home from school. I was jealous.

When I was 14 years old, I cut grass as a side hustle.

I cut grass for money and I saved my money and my parents allowed me to buy a little nine inch black and white TV. And they, I think very wisely said, if you can earn enough money to buy this

TV, you can watch it when you want.

Now, at that point, 14 years old, I already had 14 years of, you only watch TV in the evening.

And I think they understood, at first I probably would be like, wahoo, I can watch TV in the

afternoon, but over time, that TV viewing would regulate, which is what happened.

And so that whole summer I cut grass and earned enough money to buy this little nine-inch black-and-white TV made by Admiral.
