Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about Trump trying to fire the head of the Federal Elections Commission.

The chair of the commission, Ellen L. Weintrop posted to social media, quote,

received a letter from POTUS today, purporting to remove me as commissioner and chair of the

FEC there's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners this is an it i've been lucky to serve the

American people and stir up some good trouble along the way that's's not changing anytime soon. She included a copy of

the letters she received, which said, quote, you are hereby removed as a member of the Federal

Election Commission, effective immediately. Thank you for your service to the Commission.

Then it's signed Donald Trump. Okay, so that's not how this works.

That's not how any of this works. The FEC is an independent bipartisan regulatory agency.

It's set up to have an equal number of Republicans and Democrats, and there's a unique process with the terms.

The terms end in specific years on April 30th. According to Trevor Potter, a former FEC

Commissioner and Chair who was appointed by Bush Senior, quote, as the only agency that regulates the president, Congress intentionally

did not grant the president the power to fire FEC commissioners. He said an attempt to fire

a commissioner by a president would violate the law, the separation of powers, and the Supreme

Court precedent.

The ranking member of the House Administration Committee, Representative Joe Morel, said,

quote, this onslaught against the FEC, when that agency is currently reviewing complaints against the president, reeks of corruption.

Jamie Raskin said, quote, Trump's political purge continues with his illegal dismissal

of Democrat Ellen Weintraub from the FEC. Obviously, the social media post from the chair

of the commission signals her intention to fight the removal.

The obvious question is, how is the system supposed to work? A lot like Supreme Court justices.
