Well, howdy there, Internet people. It's Bell again. So today, we're going to talk about

Trump's bill, debt, Medicaid, bonds, and uncertainty. So the House released a rough sketch

of its planned Medicaid cuts. It looks like Speaker Johnson decided to play toward the Republicans in vulnerable

districts, rather than the fiscal hawks. The cuts to Medicaid look to be steep, and they

focus on what's being called community engagement requirements for some Medicaid recipients.

Those requirements would require 80 hours per month of something

to, in essence, earn social credit that shows you're worthy of health care. It could be work,

education, maybe charity. We're still in the rough sketch mode. Then, it looks like people would

have to demonstrate their eligibility more often. Right Then, it looks like people would have to demonstrate their eligibility more

often. Right now, it looks like at least twice per year. This would actually cost Medicaid more

money, but it looks like the Republicans are hoping that people fail to verify and they can be

kicked off the program. Remember, a lot of low-income

people live in rural areas that are far from a benefits office. The additional verification will

hurt the poorest Americans the most. It's not good. As Representative Frank Pallone of New Jersey

said, quote, in no uncertain terms,

millions of Americans will lose their health care coverage. Hospitals will close.

Seniors will not be able to access the care they need. And premiums will rise for millions

of people if this bill passes.

It seems like the hospitals most likely to be hit are those serving the MAGA base.

Rural hospitals that depend on the Medicaid dollars to stay afloat.

As bad as this is, this is actually not as bad as some of the options they originally planned. But there's the problem for Johnson, Trump, and the bond market. These cuts don't look like they're deep enough

to offset Trump's tax cuts to primarily benefit the wealthy. They may not get the votes they need
