So today, we're going to talk about the Canadian mind and American politics.

We've got a pretty sizable amount of overseas viewers. And while this video is specific to a question from a Canadian viewer, the overall question

and answer is probably useful to everybody, because it showcases a fundamental flaw in American

politics and how discussions end up limited.

Okay, so here's the question. Bell, I love your videos and your explanations, but as a Canadian, I have to ask two questions.

One is real and one is a joke.

The real one is, why do you and other Americans taking the position that you do actually need Canada?

Keep mentioning Podash as the thing you need. You need so much more from us. With you, I thought it was because you have a ranch and no

agriculture. But now it's everybody mentioning it. Why? And just out of curiosity, what is it in the American mind that let

Trump get elected again after he hurt your country so much the first time? Okay, so do you remember

how when Trump attacked Canada and you had Canadian politicians from across the

political spectrum accept reality and come together a little bit simply because reality presented

itself? From the outside looking in, it doesn't look like it really lasted, but it was there for a moment. Reality led to an

adjustment in politics. That doesn't happen here. People reject realities based on partisan

divides. If we said that the U.S. needed Canadian lumber as an example, Republicans would simply point

outside to trees and say, we have lumber. The logistical realities wouldn't matter in the least.

The fact that one out of four softwood boards in the U.S. come from there, doesn't matter. The fact that we

don't have the sawmills needed doesn't matter. There are trees. Therefore, we could theoretically

produce it here. Potash removes the Republican what aboutism. Because even in their fantasy land, we don't have enough.

That's why it gets used. The discussion gets limited to avoid bad faith arguments from Republicans

who reject reality. It's sad, but it's true. Now to your fun question.
