So today, we're going to talk about Lindsey Graham's other empty seat

and why it's more important. All eyes have been on the vacant Senate seat left by Lindsay

Graham's departure, but the seat will be temporarily filled by someone appointed by the Republican governor of South Carolina.

And then the process moves on as normal. Sure, Republicans don't have a real incumbent

advantage in the midterms anymore, but it's still South Carolina. However, up on Capitol Hill,

he left another seat empty. Senator Graham was the chair of the Senate Budget Committee. It's an incredibly powerful committee. It's D.C. And this is the Money Committee.

It's a big deal. All of those budget reconciliation packages Trump keeps wanting,

Trump's giant tax cuts for the rich. This is how Republicans have been dodging the filibuster.

This is the committee that matters. Now, these positions are kind of passed out by seniority. Senators Mike Crapo of Idaho and Chuck Grassley of Iowa are more senior. But they probably want to stay where they are, heading up the finance and judiciary committees. That means third term Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin is likely to be the next chair.

Johnson's office seems even more sure of it than I am.

And a spokesperson has already said, quote,

Senator Johnson is prepared to serve as budget chair when announced.
