I don't know if you had any expectations before you had children of what your children

might be like or whether you're partner did, whether you're parents did, your friends

But one thing that I found was that just because of what I had chosen to do with my

life, because I've done a little bit of meditation, because I've been a monk, most

of my friends assumed that my wife was going to give birth to a little Buddha, someone

who just sat there very quietly, very calm, didn't really say very much.

That was a big surprise and a big shock to all of them.

When we had our first boy and, you know, he's full of energy and just a very, very energetic

character, when I think about that, I'm always reminded of one of my teachers.

Although he was a monk when he escaped Tibet, when he came to the West, he decided to

continue teaching, but he was no longer a monk and so he was able to have a wife and

a family and he went on to have many children.

And there was one son in particular and he was of a similar, very sort of energetic personality.

I seem to remember some people, even his uncle, describing him as this sort of crazy sort

of young boy who's kind of wild and everyone would sort of look and go, wow, is this really

the son of that teacher, is that, is that right?
