Hello and welcome to the Scriptures of Real podcast.

This is the podcast where we talk about times when the scriptures have become real to us or ways that we found they apply to our lives because we believe we can draw more power out of the

scriptures when we do that and we need that power. I'm your host, Kerry Mulestein, and this is a

shortcast where we're going to go just a little bit more into depth about the fall of the

kingdom of Israel. We covered it just a little bit when we did the kind of drive-by high bird's-eye view. And we'll certainly come back

to it a little bit as we do Isaiah and Micah and Josea and these prophets that prophesy trying

to warn about the fall of Israel. And we also only did a drive-by bird's-eye view of the fall of

Judah. We'll come back to that more in when we do Jeremiah and Ezekiel and Daniel. So we'll cover that a little bit more there. But there are a couple of lessons I really want to draw from the fall of Israel and the scattering of the tribes. And it's an important topic, one that we need to understand

and for a number of reasons. And so I just want to go into a little bit more depth on this one.

It won't take us long. So Zachariah is a king. He's the son of Jeroboam II.

So remember Jeroboam II is one of the long-lasting kings of the northern kingdom of Israel,

powerful, prosperous, fairly righteous. It doesn't get rid of all idolatry, but doesn't support

idolatry and does a number of good things. In any case, his son, Zachariah, when Jerobo

the second dies, Zachariah takes the throne, and he's assassinated after six months.

This is that instability that we see in the kingdom of Israel.

A guy named Shalom takes the throne, and he holds it for one month.

Then a guy named Manachem takes the throne, and he takes some pretty vicious action to keep the throne.

And he loses a lot of land to Syria. This is when that Syria,

Ephemite war is going and then Hasell comes and who's been anointed by Elisha and so on.

And anyway, they just keep losing land to Syria. He ends up voluntarily paying a huge tribute

to Tiglath-Palazar the third, who in the Bible calls Poul, P-U-L. But that's Tiglath-Palaazar the third, who in the Bible calls Poo-L,

but that's Tiglath-Palazer the third, the king of Assyria. All right. And Monacham is also the
