Hi, it's Andy here and welcome to Radio Headspace.

Just Tuesday morning and today I thought we would chat a little bit about acceptance

and surrender.

The mind's quite tricky, the mind's very good at escaping and when we find ourselves

in a position where we could potentially surrender, perhaps feeling a bit more vulnerable having

to accept feelings, thoughts that are uncomfortable, we would often find the way out of that.

Sometimes that's justified, it's even appropriate.

At other times actually there's real benefit in being present with those and as I was thinking

through this I was thinking back to a flight I took with my family.

We live in LA but most of our family are back in the UK where we come from and we are

two young children, we still have two young children, but they were even younger at the

time.

The little one was just a baby, our eldest was a toddler, it's a 10 hour flight as anyone

with kids will know, 10 hours and they were waking hours as well which in a way is worse

because when half of it is sleeping it's actually not too bad but waking hours is challenging

especially around the toadling stage where they're old enough to want to get up and move

around a lot but they're not quite old enough to just sit and do something, not even watch

TV or anything like that, we were getting ready to take off and I mean he literally wouldn't

stay in his seat, he just kept on doing his seatbelt and getting up and running off.

And then once we were in the air he just kept getting up and running around.

We realised he would either be at the front of the plane opening up all of the cabinets

and cupboards and things like that driving the cabin crew crazy or if we tried to restrain
