Welcome to the Treatment. I'm Elvis Mitchell, documentary director and Pulitzer Prize winner, Lower Poitras, attended the West Coast premiere for a new documentary Citizen Four on Edward Snowton and her time with him at the LA County Museum of Arts.

One of the things I was talking to you about backstage and that people haven't really talked about, but it strikes me as being so fascinating, especially seeing it projected, is how expressive Edward Snowden is.

I mean, he's got that face that you can't, he's really, you realize that he's, when he's interviewed, he's really poker face, he just has a few facts, but he's a different

Yeah, I think there are a number of factors that explain that. First, I mean, this was his

first encounter with anyone from the media, so he was there, and I think his state of mind was

he just basically unraveled his life life and he was taking a huge risk

and he wanted to trust us so he didn't have a lot of defenses up and then also you know

because of the work that I do I mean I work in cinema verte or direct cinema so I'm not asking

a lot of questions I'm just sort of watching and observing and so I think I'm able to capture

a kind of intimacy that's that's different if you're just doing a one-to-one interview when somebody's responding.

And you see it like there's a moment in the day where Lindsay gets visited by the NSA that it's like right after Glenn started publishing.

You know, he's in the room with me and you really just see there's just like a lot of emotion that's

that's in that's present in the room and that it's kind of intimacy and then Glenn

and you and come in and he kind of goes into a more you know like okay here now

we're here to work and you see sort of guards come up so yeah that's one of

things I'm saying to you backstage when When Lindsay's in the room, you can see how his posture is different.
