Today's White House summit isn't exactly the one Ukraine's president was hoping for.

Following President Donald Trump's meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday,

Vlodemir Zelensky was hopeful Trump would come back with a ceasefire deal.

Instead, Trump is now skipping that part and aiming for a peace plan, saying Zelensky

must agree to some of Russia's conditions for the war to end, including that Ukraine

cede Crimea and agree never to join NATO.

U.S. envoy Steve Whitkoff told CNN that Putin agreed to allow security guarantees for Ukraine and made concessions

on land swaps as part of a potential peace deal.

CNN's Kevin Liptack has more from the White House.

Because Russia has said Ukraine can never join NATO, this would be a way for the U.S.

and European countries to guarantee Ukraine security so that once this peace deal is in place,

Putin does not use the time to regroup and go after other parts of Ukraine in a few years.
