Hi, this is Dr. Anita here to welcome you back to In The Light.

0:17.0

We're headed into episode 3 of season 2, where we are all about change and growth and recovery.

0:25.0

We kicked off the season with Cheryl Luke talking about the 12-step model of recovery.

0:30.0

And I told you that while the 12-step model is not a silver bullet for everything,

0:35.0

I love that it points out that change is a journey

0:39.5

and that some things we need to do to get better don't necessarily seem to have anything

1:36.1

surface. Bishop Rosie is a black preacher from North Carolina and Kara is a white graduate student

1:41.6

in Omaha. Kara is in her graduate student in Omaha.

1:42.8

Kara is in her 20s, while Bishop Rosie has kids in their 20s.

1:46.7

Their issues were completely different,

1:48.4

but their sanity had been challenged by the same trap.

1:52.3

Shame. Shame was undermining their sanity. It had them trying to do the same thing over and over again expecting different results.

2:02.8

But they both recovered by embracing the love of God.

2:07.8

The power that restored them was God's love.
