It isn't the easiest thing in the world to listen to what you know you are.

Sometimes you just have to like, I don't know, take your time and come back to it and come back to it

and come back to it.

Or sometimes it helps if somebody else is like, you know, you already are that thing.

Hi, welcome back to Let It Out.

This week, an artist I love, is on the podcast. You're about to hear the first

half of a nice and long two-hour conversation I recorded with visual artist Kimmy Quillen.

We recorded over Zoom just a couple weeks ago, Kimmy from her home in Brooklyn. I was here in

L.A. And we began talking about mornings

and coffee and routines. And the day that we recorded this, I was at the coffee shop

talking to some friends in the morning. And I realized I had to run to make it back to get ready

for this interview. And when they asked me who I was interviewing that day, I turned around and yelled my favorite

painter and then I ran off to make it home in time.

And it's true.

Kimmy is a painter whose work I love and her work can be seen on the walls of Good Move in Brooklyn.

the founder Jules, who's also a friend of Kimmy's.

Her work's been in L, Domino Magazine, Uprice Art.

She's presented solo shows, one called Many Moons, at Chinatown

Soup in 2019, November, which we talk about because I was there. And she did a show most

recently at the Philadelphia Gallery in 2020, and she just returned from a residency in Wauaca, Mexico.
