Good evening and welcome, welcome.

So tonight I'd like to share those story and in this story there's some teachings in there as well.

This is a well-known story, some of you may know it, maybe some of you won't.

It's based on the person who shows up in the Polycanon and she has a minor role in the Polycanon.

But the commentaries, which were developed hundreds of years later, kind of really flesh out her life story.

And this is very common, this is what the commentaries do, kind of like add flourish, shall we say, to us and what we find in the Polycanon.

So this is the story that, oh, maybe I'll say that there's a few different versions of this story, different places and the commentaries.

And I'll be doing a version that's kind of been modernized and embellished with a little bit more details.

So I'm not reading precisely what's from the commentaries, but the story is exactly the same just some of the details have been changed a little bit.

And so this is the story of Kisego Tommy, maybe some of you might have heard of her.

And during the time of the Buddha, the story is that she lived in the city of Saviti, which was one of the biggest cities at the time.

And she was from a poor family.

Really, she didn't have a lot of money at all.

And she was actually quite thin, maybe because she didn't have a lot of money.

So this name Kise actually means like skinny.

So we could think like skinny Gotami, her name was Gotami's, her family name.

And so she got married into a wealthy family.

But her family, her in-laws treated her with some disdain.

And was common in India and sometimes in some families in India today,

that when a woman marries into a family, she goes and lives with the in-laws.
